Director Richard Donner ("Maverick", the "Lethal Weapon" series) brings the legendary character Superman to the big screen, with Golden Globe-nominee Christopher Reeve ("Remains of the Day", "Deathtrap") as the Man of Steel, one of the prestigious American Film Institute's 50 Greatest Heroes, tracing his history from his home planet of Krypton, to his childhood in rural Smallville, to his life in Metropolis as his alter-ego, mild-mannered Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent. Oscar-winner Gene Hackman ("Unforgiven", "Crimson Tide") is Superman's brilliant arch-enemy Lex Luthor, Margot Kidder ("Maverick", "The Amityville Horror") is his love interest Lois Lane, and Oscar-winner Marlon Brando ("The Godfather", "Streetcar Named Desire") is his wise father, Jor-El. Also starring Academy Award-nominee Valerie Perrine ("Lenny"), Ned Beatty (TV's "Homicide: Life on the Street"), Larry Hagman (TV's "Dallas") and John Ratzenberger (TV's "Cheers").
